3. Understanding User Roles

Understanding User Roles

Famcling is designed so that building and maintaining a family website can be a shared effort. Different people can have different responsibilities depending on their role in the family and the part of the website they manage. Appropriate user roles help ensure that information is managed, reviewed, and maintained by the right people.

1 Family Admin

The Family Admin has overall responsibility for the family's domain. The Family Admin manages the family website, its pages and content, the different branches, and the people responsible for managing those branches. They can manage Branch Managers, oversee the Family Tree, and manage family-wide content such as articles, news, events, and photographs.

The Family Admin also plays an important role in maintaining the quality and integrity of the family's information. They can review and manage contributions and take appropriate action when information or user activity needs attention. They can also block or remove access when necessary. In this way, the Family Admin acts as the overall custodian of the family's Famcling website, helping ensure that the family's information remains appropriate, reliable, and well managed.

2 Branch Managers

A Branch Manager is responsible for maintaining a particular branch of the family. They can build and update the Family Tree for their branch by adding family members, relationships, and other information they know about their part of the family.

Branch Managers can also contribute content related to their branch, such as articles, news, and events. Since they are usually familiar with the people and history of their own branch, they can contribute information that may not be known to others. Each Branch Manager maintains the part of the family they know best, and these individual contributions can gradually connect with other branches to form a larger and more complete Family Tree.

3 Public

Public refers to visitors who can access the publicly available parts of a Famcling family website. Public visitors can search for and explore families, family history, people, articles, and other information that the family has chosen to share publicly.

The Family Admin and Branch Managers contribute, manage, and maintain the family's information, while the Public can explore and discover the family story that has been shared with them.
