Overview of Famcling Features
Discover Families, People & Articles
Famcling provides a unified search facility that helps users quickly find families, people, and articles available on the platform. Users can search using relevant names or keywords and access the information they are looking for without having to manually navigate through different family pages.
The search functionality helps users:
- Search Families – Find registered families or family domains by family name or other relevant information.
- Search People – Find individuals associated with families on Famcling using their names or other available details.
- Search Articles – Find family-related articles, stories, history, memories, and other published content using relevant keywords.
The search results provide direct access to the corresponding family, person, or article, making it easier for users to discover and explore family-related information across Famcling.
Visibility of information is governed by the family's sharing settings. Public users can search for and view only the information that a family has chosen to make publicly available. Private or restricted family information will not be exposed through the public search.
Custom Family Website & Pages
Famcling allows each family to create and customize its own family website within the platform. Families can decide how they want to present their heritage, people, memories, stories, and other family-related information by creating and organizing their own pages.
Families can use this capability to:
- Customize the Home Page – Create a family-specific home page that introduces the family and highlights the information they want visitors to see.
- Create Family History & Heritage Pages – Document and present the family's history, origins, heritage, traditions, and other information that should be preserved for future generations.
- Share Memories & Stories – Create pages to share family memories, personal experiences, people stories, and other content contributed by family members.
- Create Custom Pages – Add additional pages based on the family's needs, allowing each family to organize and present information in its own way.
This gives every family the flexibility to build a unique online presence while keeping their family information organized within Famcling.
Member Profile
Every family member in Famcling can have an individual Member Profile that brings together information about that person and their place within the family. The profile can include basic personal details, an introduction or About section, education and work experience, living timeline, life events, family members, and lineage. This provides a more complete picture of a person beyond their position in the Family Tree.
The profile also connects the person to their family relationships, making it possible to understand their parents, spouse, children, siblings, and other family connections, as well as their place within the family's lineage. Information can be added and updated over time as the family's knowledge about each member grows.
The information displayed publicly on a Member Profile is controlled by the Family Admin or Branch Manager, according to the member's consent and the family's privacy preferences. This allows families to preserve meaningful information about their members while respecting each person's choice about what they wish to share.
Family Tree
The Family Tree is the core feature of Famcling, providing a structured and interactive representation of a family's lineage and relationships across generations. It brings together family members from different branches into a connected family structure, making it easier to understand how individuals and branches are related.
A family can build its tree by adding people and defining their relationships, such as parents, children, spouses, and other family connections. As the family grows, new members and branches can be added to the existing tree without losing their connection to the wider family.
The tree is designed for interactive exploration rather than being just a static chart. Users can navigate through generations, explore different branches, view individual family members, and understand the connections between them. This provides a visual way to explore family lineage that may otherwise be difficult to understand from written records alone.
Family Tree management is shared between Family Admins and Branch Managers. Family Admins can manage the overall family tree, while Branch Managers can maintain the members and relationships within their respective branches. This allows large and extended families to collaboratively maintain their family information while keeping the different branches connected.
The family tree also provides the foundation for Famcling's relationship-based features, allowing the system to determine and present the relationship between two people based on their position and connections within the family tree.
By bringing people, relationships, generations, and branches together in one connected structure, Famcling provides families with a digital representation of their family lineage that can be explored, maintained, and expanded over time.
Find Relationship
Famcling makes it possible to discover how any two people in a family are related. By selecting two individuals from the family, Famcling analyzes the relationships and connections between them and identifies their relationship within the family lineage.
The system uses the family tree's underlying relationship structure to determine the connection between the selected people. It can trace the path through parents, children, spouses, and common ancestors, and present the relationship in a way that is easy to understand.
For example, rather than manually studying a large family tree to determine how two distant relatives are connected, a user can simply select the two people and let Famcling find the relationship between them.
This feature is particularly valuable for large and extended families, where relationships can span multiple generations and branches and may not be immediately apparent.
Branches
A large family may have many branches or subfamilies that have developed over different generations. These branches may be known by different names within the family or society and may be spread across different places. In branches page we can view all the branches of a family and their details
The Branch page also provides a visual representation of how the different branches have diverged from their common ancestors over generations. This helps illustrate how the family has grown and spread into different branches while showing that, despite their different identities and names, all the branches remain connected as part of one family.
Each branch can have its own dedicated subdomain and its own profile, allowing the branch to maintain its identity within the larger family website. The branch can also have dedicated pages for its Home, News, Events, and Articles, where information specific to that branch can be shared and preserved.
Members
The Members page provides a list of members of the family, making it easy to view and access the people belonging to the family. Users can search for specific members and navigate directly to their individual profiles to view the information available about them.
Famcling also allows families to organize their members into categories. Families can create and assign categories based on their own requirements, making it easier to group, identify, and find members with common roles, interests, responsibilities, or other characteristics relevant to the family.
For example, a family may create categories to identify members based on their professional background, family responsibilities, achievements, interests, or involvement in family activities and organizations. The categories are customizable, allowing each family to use them in a way that best suits its own needs.
Articles
The Articles section provides a space for families and their members to write, publish, and share content on a wide range of topics. Articles are not limited to family-related subjects and can cover stories, experiences, information, knowledge, opinions, and other content, including family history, stories about people and places, memorable events, personal experiences, and subjects beyond the family that members wish to share with the wider community.
Articles can be organized into categories, allowing readers to browse and filter content based on their interests. Readers can also search for specific articles using relevant words or topics.
Families have control over the visibility of their articles. An article can be published publicly for anyone to read or kept private for access only within the family. This allows Famcling to support both public sharing and private family content.
News
The News section provides a space for families and their members to publish and share updates, announcements, and other timely information with the family or the wider community. It can be used to keep people informed about what is happening within the family, as well as events, activities, achievements, or other developments that the family wishes to share.
Readers can browse the available news and open individual items to read the complete information.
News can be shared publicly or kept within the family based on the family's visibility preferences. This allows families to use the News section both to communicate with their wider community and to share updates privately among family members.
Events
The Events section allows families to create, organize, and share different occasions and activities through their Famcling website. It can be used for personal and family milestones, celebrations, gatherings, community activities, and other events that are relevant to the family.
To make event creation more suitable for different types of occasions, Famcling provides predefined categories such as Birthday, Wedding, Engagement, Housewarming, Reunion, Community Meeting, Festival, Charity Event, Sports Event, and more. Each category can have a dedicated template designed to capture and present the information relevant to that type of event.
Events can be searched and browsed, allowing users to easily find both upcoming and past events. Families can also control the visibility of each event, choosing whether it should be available publicly or only to members of the family.
In addition to helping families communicate upcoming events, the Events section provides a way to record important occasions and activities that become part of the family's shared history.
Photo Gallery
The Photo Gallery provides a dedicated space for families to collect, organize, and share photographs through their Famcling website. Families can create albums to group photographs based on occasions, people, places, periods, or other themes that are meaningful to them.
Users can browse the available albums and explore the photographs within them. The search option also makes it easier to find specific albums in a large collection of family photographs.
Families can control the visibility of their photographs and albums, choosing whether they should be available publicly or only to family members. This allows families to preserve and share their photographs while maintaining control over who can access them.
The Photo Gallery complements the Family Tree, Events, and Articles by providing a visual way to preserve and explore the people, occasions, places, and memories that form part of the family's story.
