Family Domain

What is a Family Domain?

A Family Domain is the dedicated digital identity and space of a family within Famcling. Each family registered on Famcling gets a unique web address through which its family profile and website can be accessed and shared with others.

The Family Domain is based on the family's identity. For example, a family can have a dedicated address such as familyname.famcling.com. When the family has branches or subfamilies, each branch can also have its own dedicated subdomain within the Family Domain, creating a separate space for that branch while keeping it connected to the main family.

Each family therefore has its own dedicated website and family profile on Famcling, which family members can share with relatives, friends, and others. Anyone who receives the family web address can visit the family's profile and explore the information that the family has chosen to share.

Getting Your Family Domain

Currently, Family Domain creation is handled outside the Famcling website through the Famcling Platform Admin. A person or family who wants to create a Family Domain needs to contact the Platform Admin and submit the required family and contact information.

This process includes verification before the Family Domain and Family Admin account are created. The verification helps ensure that:

  1. The request is genuinely coming from the family being represented.
  2. The requested family name and identity are being used appropriately.
  3. A Family Domain is not unnecessarily duplicated for the same family.
  4. The person requesting the domain is an appropriate and authorized person to manage the family account.
  5. Family names and identities are not misused by someone attempting to represent another family.

The process

1. Submit a Request

Contact the Famcling Platform Admin and provide the required family details, requested family name, contact information, and details of the person who will act as the Family Admin.

2. Family and Request Verification

The Platform Admin reviews the request and verifies the family identity and the person making the request. This helps establish the genuineness of the request and prevents unauthorized or duplicate Family Domains.

3. Create the Family Domain

Once the request is verified, the Platform Admin creates the Family Domain with the appropriate family name, unique web address, and initial Family Admin account.

4. Provide Family Admin Access

The Family Admin account is set up using the registered Family Admin email address. Once access is provided, the Family Admin can sign in and begin setting up and managing the family website.

Getting Started with Your Family Domain

Once the Family Domain is created, the Family Admin becomes responsible for setting up and maintaining the family's space on Famcling.

The Family Admin can start by:

  1. Customizing the family website and choosing a suitable theme or template.
  2. Setting up the Home page, menus, and other family pages.
  3. Building the initial Family Tree with the family members and relationships they know.
  4. Creating and managing the family's branches.
  5. Assigning Branch Managers to different branches.
  6. Adding and maintaining Member Profiles.
  7. Preserving family history, stories, photographs, articles, news, events, and other meaningful information.

The family does not have to build everything at once. The Family Tree and family content can grow gradually as different family members and Branch Managers contribute what they know.

Growing Your Family Domain

As the family begins using Famcling, different Branch Managers can maintain their assigned branches and contribute information about the people, relationships, history, stories, and activities they know best.

Each branch can have its own dedicated space within the Family Domain while remaining connected to the overall family. As these individual contributions come together, the Family Tree becomes larger and more complete, and the Family Domain gradually becomes a richer record of the family's history and present.

The Family Domain provides the space for your family story; the collective contributions of the family bring that story to life.
